Daily Devotional – May 29-June 4

Rev. Doug Heiman   -

May 29 – Meditating on God’s Word

This devotional series offers less content but more opportunity for you to reflect, contemplate, and pray through the short Scriptures we offer. It is an opportunity to help us slow down and enjoy time in the presence of God. It is an exercise in listening with the intent of hearing from God through His Word and by His Spirit. Here is the passage for the week:

Hebrews 10:19-25, Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Prayer: “Father, thank you for the confidence we have in our salvation through the sacrifice of your Son, Jesus. Since we can know we’re saved, we can draw close to you, holding on tightly to our faith and the hope we have. Use me to encourage others to stay faithful in their personal walk and their participation in the Body of Christ because the Day is getting closer! Amen.”

May 30 – Meditating on God’s Word

Hebrews 10:19-20, Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body,

Write out the Scripture. (As it is or in your own words.)

“Therefore, family of faith, since we have confidence to enter into the Holy of Holies by the shed blood of Jesus in a brand-new way opened for us through the curtain, the very body of Christ.”

Observe what it is saying. (Answer the who, what, when, where, why, and how questions)

The Most Holy Place, behind the curtain in the Temple, was where God’s holy presence was believed to reside on earth. No person could ever or no priest, except one once a year, could enter this space. This remarkable verse tells us that anyone can now enter into God’s holy presence through the shed blood of Jesus offered through His crucifixion.

Relate it to your life. (Connect how this Scripture speaks into your life today.)

It’s so difficult for us to understand how radical this message is. Jesus’ shed blood alone grants us access and brings us into the very presence of our holy God.

Do something. (Pray it. Live it. Act on it.)

“Father, I want to fully comprehend and appreciate the gift of Jesus’ sacrifice and the confidence it gives me to enter and enjoy Your Holy Presence. Thank You Jesus! Amen.”

May 31 – Meditating on God’s Word

Hebrews 10:21-22, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

Write out the Scripture.

“Since we have such a great high priest over God’s house, let’s draw near to God with sincerity of heart and full assurance of faith, our hearts cleansed from guilt and our bodies washed pure.”

Observe what it is saying.

Because of Jesus’ gift for us, we’re wholeheartedly motivated to come close to God because we have the full assurance of our faith. Our consciences no longer convict us of sin for our total being, including our bodies, has been washed clean. We have no blemish before God!

Relate it to your life.

God wants me to come near to Him so He has made the way possible with my total cleansing. I have no excuse for not developing a close relationship with Him. I choose to come close today.

Do something.

“Father, thank You for the gift that has forever changed my life and brought me near. Amen.”

June 1 – Meditating on God’s Word

Hebrews 10:23, Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful

Write out the Scripture.

“Let us hold on tightly to the hope we profess because Jesus who promised it is faithful.”

Observe what it is saying.

Our hope is secure because of what Jesus has done for us. However, we must persevere in all situations to keep believing the hope we have in Christ’s redemptive act. Jesus is faithful.

Relate it to your life.

Even when the Enemy, tries to tell me differently, I must keep believing the truth of the gospel that leads to this incredible hope of my entrance into God’s presence for all of eternity.

Do something.

“Jesus, thank You for Your faithfulness to keep the promise of redemption. Give me such a persevering faith to keep believing it’s because of Your work, not mine, that I’m saved. Amen.”

June 2 – Meditating on God’s Word

Hebrews 10:24, And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,

Write out the Scripture.

“Let’s think about how we can urge each other to love and good deeds,”

Observe what it is saying.

The body of Christ is a fellowship that spurs each other. To spur is a strong action that provokes a horse to get up and go quickly. This is the image of how we are to go about prodding each other to love and do good in God’s kingdom. We cannot sit idly by but must put love into action.

Relate it to your life.

I need to hear and respond to these stimulating words from others as well as give them.

Do something.

“Father, make us spurring Christians. Make us responding Christians to the spurring that we receive. The time is short. The life-changing message is urgent. We need to get at it. Amen.”

June 3 – Meditating on God’s Word

Hebrews 10:25, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Write out the Scripture.

“not failing to gather together, as some have made a habit of doing, but encouraging one another all the more as the Day of Christ’s coming approaches.

Observe what it is saying.

This continues the thought of how we are to spur each other on to love and good deeds. We must meet together as believers so that we can put ourselves in relationship with one another to encourage and receive encouragement to be faithful so that we’ll be ready when Christ returns.

Relate it to your life.

I must make it a high priority to worship, participate in groups, and serve others so that I can be an encouragement and receive encouragement to be faithful to the end. When I remove myself from the body of Christ, I take away opportunity for mutual encouragement.

Do something.

“Jesus, don’t let me listen to the lie of the Enemy that I don’t need to meet with believers to stay encouraged or to give encouragement so that together we can cross the finish line. Amen.”
